Major life insurance provider Fidelity Life has initiated a support program for its customers grappling with the severe drought conditions affecting multiple regions across the nation.

The New Zealand government has officially recognised these drought conditions as medium-scale adverse events in areas including Northland, Taranaki, Manawatū-Wanganui (including Tararua), Horowhenua, Wairarapa, Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman, Canterbury, and Otago.

Premium relief for drought-affected Fidelity Life customers

Effective immediately, Fidelity Life policyholders who are experiencing financial strain due to the drought may be eligible for a temporary suspension of their premium payments for up to three months. There is also an option to extend this suspension for an additional three months, ensuring that their insurance coverage remains unaffected during this period.

Bronwyn Kirwan (pictured), chief commercial officer at Fidelity Life, expressed understanding of the significant challenges these communities face, many of which are still dealing with the aftermath of the 2023 flooding and Cyclone Gabrielle.

“We’re here to protect New Zealanders’ way of life and that means being there for our customers through the good times, and the bad,” she said. “We hope this offer helps our customers get through this challenging time, with one less concern on their mind.

“Our hearts go out to all those affected up and down the country, and we encourage our customers in these areas who are facing financial hardship to reach out to their adviser and see how we can help.”

Affected customers are urged to consult with their financial advisers or contact Fidelity Life directly at [email protected] to explore available relief options. More information regarding the drought relief initiative is accessible on Fidelity Life’s dedicated web pages for customers and advisers alike.

Fidelity Life also recently revived its customer engagement initiative, which aims to recognise insurance advisers who continuously provide outstanding customer service.
