Lockton has announced the promotion of two senior members within its crisis management team, effective May 1, 2024.

With the announcement, Helen Sandford (pictured above, left) has been named head of special crime, while Freddie Schlesinger (pictured above, right) will serve as head of product recall and reputational risk. Both will play pivotal roles in the expansion of the team, which integrates war, terrorism & political violence, special crime, and product recall & reputational risk services.

Sandford, previously assistant vice president and special crime lead for Lockton's crisis management team, brings significant expertise in special crime risk. Schlesinger, who joined Lockton in 2019 as vice president, has a vast background in product recall and a strong commitment to client service.

These leadership changes follow last year’s appointment of James Bannister as head of war, terrorism & political violence. Lockton also notes the promotions as a reflection of its strategy of nurturing internal talent and its commitment to growth within the crisis management specialty.

Matt Humphries, head of crisis management at Lockton, commented on the growth and strategic focus of his team.

“We are growing rapidly and differentiating ourselves from our peers through getting niche expertise to our clients & prospects. As we grow, I am delighted that we have the strength in depth to continually promote from within. Freddie and Helen are the latest example of our approach to talent development,” Humphries said.

Humphries also noted the increasing importance of crisis management given the current global dynamics, which have seen a significant uptick in frequency of crises events.

“Their skillset and insights will be instrumental in maintaining the momentum the team has built and delivering bespoke insurance solutions, formulated to manage the precise risks our clients face. Lockton’s unique proposition is deliberately aligned to achieve economies of scale and to make crisis management a standalone conversation,” he said.
